What is the best gel to use for gel nails?

i am a beauty therapist and want to try different gel for my gel nails ??

any ideas ??What is the best gel to use for gel nails?
Well if you're looking for something that can be removed easily, I'd go for soak off gels. Bio and calgel is great, but it's very pricey. If you're just gonna try it out, it might be better for you to try LeChat's Nobility or Akzentz! What is the best gel to use for gel nails?
Bio gel
my daughter prefers the revlon gel.

Looking for a salon that does UV Gel Nails in Silverdale Wa?

I just moved to Silverdale and I am looking for a salon that does UV Gel nails. Every salon that said they do UV Gels end up doing the powder type gel. I am frustrated and my nails need fill. Can anyone suggest a place? It doesn't have to be in Silverdale, anywhere in Kitsap county would work.

Thanks!Looking for a salon that does UV Gel Nails in Silverdale Wa?

  • Gel Nails vs Acrylic, HELP! Any recommendations for nail technicians near SW17?

I'm really confused!! I got my nails done for the very first time at Christmas. I asked for gel but I'm not sure that's what I got after reading up about them. It was applied as a powder %26amp; liquid but I did then have to put my hands under a uv light to finish it off, but all in all it only took about 1/2 hour. How can I find a qualified nail technician near SW17 to go to as I want to get them taken off, would they be able to tell the difference of what is on my nails? Any help would be greatly appreciated!Gel Nails vs Acrylic, HELP! Any recommendations for nail technicians near SW17?
If you asked for gel nails, and got charged for gel nails, then they got the best of you - and your money if the gel nails were more costly than acrylic nails. Its unfortunate but this happens a lot to unsuspecting women who want gel nails, but end up just getting acrylic nails with a UV gel topcoat. It's not your fault though. You now know what to look for, I assume. I'll just give you a a few pointers about gel nails, and what to look for when getting them.

First of all, about the appearance of nail gels. As you probably could already figure out yourself, UV gel has the look and consistency of a hair gel. It comes in a wide variety of colors, and there are various viscosities of gel which are used for different areas of the nail - but that last part isn't something that you need to be concerned about. Here is what top quality UV gels look like:

    http://www.cnd.com/Home/homelink-consume鈥?/a>

UV gels are never a powder. If the tech uses ANY liquid and powder, you are getting acrylic nails, not gel nails.

The rule of thumb for gel nail application is that they are easy to do, but difficult to master. You would be best off by going to a tech who has a good deal of experience doing UV gel nails, and is highly skilled at it.

BTW, a highly skilled tech will usually take about an hour and a half to apply a full set of UV gel nails. A tech who takes a half hour to do either UV gels, or acrylics is skipping steps and taking many shortcuts to do it in such a short time. Avoid this type of tech, and salons who have these tachs working for them. They are notorious for ruining your nails, and usually do a poor quality job on your nails.

The gels are applied in several thin layers which need to be individually cured under a UV lamp for about two minutes each layer. The final layer is usually either a UV gel topcoat, or a UV gel sealer which is also cured for about two minutes. Either one will provide a high gloss finish on your nails which will last for a week or two at least. Don't file or buff UV gel nails because that will ruin the shine of the gels, and if you file the tips, it will destroy the 'seal' that the gel has formed between your natural nails, and the gel itself. This could lead to seperation of the gel from the nailplate, and that is not what you want!

UV gels are non-porous. What this means in terms of removal is that they cannot be soaked off the same way that acrylics can be because the acetone will not penetrate the surface of the gel. UV gels nails must be filed off by a tech who is highly skilled, and has removed UV gels quite a bit already. Going to an unskilled tech could easily turn out to be a disaster for your nails because it it difficult to tell exactly where the gel ends, and your natural nails begin. Only a very experienced tech can do this without ruining your nails. Don't ever let a tech pry them off, tear them off, or force them off in any way. This will cause you not only a lot of unnecessary pain or discomfort, but it WILL also damage your nails- sometimes severely.

I'm sorry, but I do not know where SW17 is. But, I can give you a link to a site which has a salon locator. This page is on Creative Nail Design's website. CND is a leading provider of professional acrylic and gel products, and has been in business longer than any other nail company in existence. ALL of the techs/salons on this page have been company trained, and company certified PRIOR to their being placed on this list so you can rest assured that you will be in the hands of a well qualified technician. BTW, I have nothing to gain, nor will I profit in any way by posting this link. I am doing so strictly for informational purposes only. I am not affiliated with the company in any way other than the fact that I have been trained, and certified by them as a Master Technician:

Yes they do apply tips. Also if this is your first time getting them done be aware that if you dont plan on keeping them very long, they arent worth your money in the long run. but for gels its pretty much the same process as normal nails except they apply a gel that makes them look more natural. I always get those if i have the money. plus, they last longer via breaking.
Yes they do apply tips with gel nails. Again, they look great but do ruin your nails and are very expensive if you plan on keeping them on and getting them re-done.

Can you get gel nails on super-short fingernails?

My fingernails are an embarrassment. They are so short and ugly. When I say short, I mean SHORT. They peel and crack and it's pointless for me to try to grow them out. I want pretty nails so badly, so I've been thinking about getting gels put on, but I don't know if they can be put on my pathetic stubs. I don't want t waste the money if they are going to just fall off. And I don't want the embarrassment of going to a nail salon and inquiring about such nails if I'm just going to be told to run along. Can you get gel nails on super-short fingernails?
You can get extensions put on your short nails that will grow out. They'll stay put after the gel hardens.

But I have to warn you that if and when you decide to stop having gel nails done, your natural nails will look awful for months afterward. I had them for a couple of months last year, and while they did look very nice, what I saw after I took them off did not make me happy. Not only had more than one nail broken down past the quick, what was left of my nails was severely damaged and had ridges in them. As they grew out they broke very easily and cracked. And to top it all off, as the gel sets under the UV lights it HURTS. Badly. I'll never have them done again.

But beauty is pain, right? Can you get gel nails on super-short fingernails?
Nails that peel and crack are because of deficiency in various nutrients. Please do start eating a lot of green vegetables and lots of fruits. Also do soak the nails in warm olive oil every day for 10 minutes and massage them upwards from the cuticle. I would also ask you to apply nail hardners that are available in stores. You will not need to get gels put on etc...I bet you can see a drastic change in 2 weeks if you start eating right. Good luck

Easy quick way to get gel nails off?

Whats is a really EASY way to get my gel nails off? Without going to a salon or nail place just at home?Easy quick way to get gel nails off?
Did anyone even read the question??? It specifically states GEL NAILS....

UV gel nails cannot be soaked off in acetone. Acrylics , yes. UV gels, no. There are a few companies that make soakable gels, but the stuff is not very good so not many techs use it. They must be filed off. There is no easy way of removing them. And don't go pulling them off or tearing them off. That is awful advice. Essentially, if you are able to soak your 'gel' nails off in acetone, the chances are that you do NOT have gel nails after all. Nope. If you can soak them off, you have acrylic nails.Easy quick way to get gel nails off?
The easiest way I found is to take a tweezer or some of the nail clippers have a piece added on the has like a sharp edge, and you just slide it under the nail, starting at the bottom. It will be a little tender but the faster you do it the quicker its over with. Hope that helps. Good luck. ';]
the best way is to soak them in acetone finger nail polish remover don't rip them off you can permanently damage your real nails .just put some of the remover in a small bowl and let your nails soak it may take a while but it will work.
Never try to pry professional product off your nails, you can really do a lot of damage to your nails that way. Softer by soaking in acetone, then push or roll the product off, followed by a gentle buffing.
soak them in acetone nail polish,

    then after like 10 minutes,

    peel them off,

    they peel off really easily,

you just need to soften them with acetone!

How do I get Gel nails off at home?

    Getting Rid of Gel Nails

What if you get tired of your gel nails? Here are a few things you can do:

Foil Wrap Removal Method – Prepare your gel nails for removal by making sure that all traces of enamel are removed and the enhancement surface is buffed with a 240-grit file. Hold the remover under warm water for two minutes (note: do not exceed five minutes). Saturate a gauze pad, a cotton ball or a cotton pad with remover and put it on top of the enhancement.

Encase the cotton pad tightly in a square of tin foil for sealing and then apply each foil seal and pad individually to avoid evaporation. Soak in this manner for 30 minutes. Check for progress by removing one “wrap” before sloughing the product from the surface of the nail with an orangewood stick or a cuticle pusher.

If the product is removed, buff the surface of your nails to make sure that all gel nails have been successfully removed. Condition your nails and skin by massaging them with lotion and then rinse your hands thoroughly. You can then apply a new product, like nail polish, on your nails.

The Bowl Soaking Method – All traces of enamel should be removed with a 240-grit nail file. Fill a bowl with warm water. The bottle of your remover should be squeezed to remove excess air. Put your fingers on the fingerbowls and then pour the remover on them in an amount that's enough for soaking. Cover your hands with a terry towel and wait for 15 to 30 minutes. You can now lift your fingers off the bowl and remove the layer of gel nail with a cuticle pusher. Again, don't hesitate to buff your nails for best results. How do I get Gel nails off at home?
Gel nails is a tough one because if you got ';powdered gel'; that is not real gel nails. Gel nails should be as the name implies, all gel, and those products are either Brisa Gel or creative concept nails. Nevertheless technically gels can not be removed, but your corner asian nail shop will soak them in acetone, which does nothing because the acetone will not penetrate the hard surface made from the UV light. Then they will rip them off. I've had clients come to me with holes, yes holes, in their nails from having that done to them which is illegal too. The best way is to file them down and if and only IF they get loose then you can gently pull them off.

Does anyone know where they do UV Gel Nails in Massachusetts?

I think I am developing an allergy to acrylic. I have had acrylic nails for almost 20 years. My fingers burn and get very itchy and sore around the nail and cuticles and start to peel. I read that was an allergy. I also read that UV Gel Nails are natural and better for your nails while being perfect for people who do not want acrylic nails.Does anyone know where they do UV Gel Nails in Massachusetts?

Gel Nails turned into hell nails! Does anyone have a solution?

I have had gel nails prior to this, but recently had someone apply gel nails after years of going without them. #1 They are too thick and they are causing stress to my nails. One broke off and actually drew blood, ouch! Does anyone know (besides filing them down) how I can get these things off? They need to be filled, but this has been such a bad experience I just want them off. Any suggestions?Gel Nails turned into hell nails! Does anyone have a solution?
Some company makes a kind of acetone that you can get at Wal-Mart called Tip Off...get it and soak your fingers in it for a little while and just mess with them to get em loosened up and they should come right off. Make sure you moisturize your hands well afterwards cause acetone is super drying.Gel Nails turned into hell nails! Does anyone have a solution?
go to the person who did them.

tell them they made a mistake by doing them to thick.

they will have to remove it or file it down for free because they have recked one of your other nails etc etc.
ouch . you can buy pure acetone. thats what they use in the salons. you can get it at sally's beauty supply(i dont know if you have that where you live.) another place is wal-mart or any beauty place.

Whats the differance between acrylic and gel nails?

I already asked this in another section but i want to see what the brides out there have to say......THANKS!!!!

I have nice nails, but they are thin. I want to go get something put on them so they dont break before my wedding. What would be better, and what is the differance?

Thanks!!Whats the differance between acrylic and gel nails?
Get gel overlays for sure! That's what I'm doing for my wedding. My nails are nice too, just typically thinner than most I guess. It looks so much more natural than acrylics!

Acrylics are completely fake tips (cut to any length) while the gel overlays just cover whatever nail you have and reinforce your natural nail to prevent against breakage. But, both are very hard on your nailbeds. Or, at least not great especially if you already have thin nails.

Good luck! Congratulations!Whats the differance between acrylic and gel nails?
Okay, gel overlays and gel nails are different things. If you have nice long nails, then gel overlays would be a good idea. That is where they put gel on top of your real nails.

Acrylic and gel nails are almost the same thing. The only difference is that with gel nails, they put a layer of gel on top of the acrylic nails. The gel looks like clear nail polish and will make the nail very shiny. Also, the gel dries by having UV light shining on them (that's what the UV lights in the nail dryers at nail salons are for). You really only need to get gel if you work with your hands a lot and are hard on your nails.
Acrylic nails are currently more popular than gel nails, but they have been around longer so that makes sense. Acrylics can be whole or partial, used over the entire nail or simply as tips. A mixture of liquid acrylic (monomer) and polymer, which is an acrylic powder, is applied to the nail. It hardens on its own fairly quickly, usually within minutes.

There are two current types of gel nails: light cured and no-light gels. A gel nail is typically a pre-mixed polymer and monomer gel that is first applied to the nails and then cured under ultra-violet lights. Light cured are still more common, but the advantage to no-light gel nails is less time waiting in the light. There's also the added benefit of not needing that piece of equipment (the light).

No-light gel nails are cured with a special gel activator that is brushed or sprayed onto the nail. Some are cured by being dipped in plain water.

Gel and acrylic nails have similar results. They can lengthen short nails, strengthen nails, and make your hands look how you鈥檇 like them to. There are some various pros and cons that might help you decide which the right choice is for you. If gel nails, acrylic nails, and other choices are overwhelming you, then one thing you can always do is speak with a nail technician (manicurist) who can help you make a wise decision that will fit your needs.

As far as finishing touches, you can paint either type or do French tips on either. Some people think that airbrushing looks much better on gel nails because they are shinier, but when it comes to looks people vary in their tastes. You can look at photos of different types of nails at Next Nail which should give you an idea of the look of artificial nails you want.

If you鈥檙e looking for safety information about monomers, polymers, and other manicure agents then visit the Food %26amp; Drug Administration's page on nail product regulations.

    Pros of Acrylic Nails

If you break an acrylic nail you can almost always fix it temporarily and rather easily yourself.

The removal process is simple and straightforward if done by a professional. The nails can be soaked rather than filed off.

Acrylics are very strong. When done correctly and good nail care is practiced, they can last a long time. They鈥檙e robust!

    Pros of Gel Nails

Gel nails often look more natural and glossy than other types of cosmetic nails.

The curing time is faster than acrylics, sometimes clocking in at just two minutes when light-curing is done.

    Gel nail mixtures are odorless.

There is less filing involved during the application process.

    Cons of Acrylic Nails

They can damage your real nails in a harsher manner than gel nails can.

Acrylics can look fake instead of natural and they can look even worse when done incorrectly.

It can be hard to grow out acrylic nails.

    Cons of Gel Nails

They don鈥檛 last as long and are less durable than acrylic, even though they tend to cost more.

Gel nails are harder to do yourself if you like to do home manicures.

It鈥檚 been noted that nail polish won鈥檛 stick to the gel finish as well as it does to an acrylic finish.

If a gel nail breaks, you may be in for some trouble. It can sometimes be more of a shatter effect than a clean break, so self-fixing a break is not usually an option. You鈥檒l need to make an appointment right away with your manicurist. Sometimes they do break cleanly; basic nail glue could be used in that case.

Gel nails almost always need to be filed off. You can鈥檛 just soak them away.

There are so many variables when it comes to gel nails, acrylic nails, natural nails and everything in between that your best bet is always to go to a trusted tail technician. Ask your friends who they use or call the Better Business Bureau before going to a shop. Sometimes the only difference between gel and acrylic is how they鈥檝e been applied, so you want to hire a professional you can trust..

I am not sure where you are but, I paid $35 for a full set of pink/white gel nails at a salon plus the cost to remove the old acrylic nails that I had on (I believe that was $15) plus tip. The fill-in is $20 for pink only, $30 for pink/white; done about every three weeks.Gel nails how much do they cost??The beautician is dong them at home whats a fair price to pay?
I'm a mobile nail technician and I chrge 拢20 for gel nails
I had mine done for 拢20 by someone at home.
It depends on where you live. In my area (central MA) a good set of gel nails is $50-$60. In Southern Cal I bet you could get them for $30
My daughter paid 拢40 at a salon and they did look good but she has to have them touched up every 4 weeks and that costs 拢20. The only problem is ';time'; It took 2 hours to do them and over an hour to touch up.They are time and money consuming, but try it.
    拢30 is about an average

Can i file down my own gel nails, or will it effect the coating?

i'm thinking about filing them down, because i don't know if they will be to long for work or not.Can i file down my own gel nails, or will it effect the coating?
I regularly have gel or acrylic nails done as i find them to look more uniform than my own. I often file them too, although i use a set of 4 different ones, each with a variation in grit texture. The most coarse is used to shape the nail %26amp; will get through thick gel/acrylic with no issues. The remaining three files are essentially a set of ';buffers';, you can pick these up in drug stores or nail bars for a small cost, they will leave your nails with the original shine you left the salon with...finish with a top coat of clear polish applied in 3 strokes (one in the middle, two either side) and nobody will be any wiser that you've touched them up yourself :)Can i file down my own gel nails, or will it effect the coating?

Many reasons why toronto is NOT....

'; I think Toronto sucks because it's very overrated. It's just a crappy version of New York City, and all the Toronto radio stations talk about it as if it were some American cliche, where dreams and miracles meet reality, when really, it's just a big dump.

Drive twenty minutes out of the rich downtown business districts, and you're in the slums. It makes Harlem look like Beverly Hills.

There are bums sleeping on the sidewalks and most areas look so run-down that I wouldn't dare to stop my car, much less get out of it. I'm tired of waking up to ';another stabbing/rape/shoot-out in Toronto last night'; on the morning news.

Actually, what I hate most about Toronto is what they did the the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). It was such a beautiful old building, and now it looks like it sprouted some kind of ******* robotic tumor. I'm sure I'll get some thumbs down for this answer, but this city is a national disgrace.

You could do, but they wont stay the same shape you had when you got them done, also it can be quite had to file gel nails as there quite thick and hard just make sure you only do the free edge and dont go over the tip :)
yes, make sure you remember to keep the original shape of the nail though xx

Do you grow your nails out a little or cut them before you get Gel Nails put on?

    Or does it not matter?

I'm getting my nails done for my wedding...gels, not acrylics. Does it matter if my nails are growing or should I cut them real short.Do you grow your nails out a little or cut them before you get Gel Nails put on?
i dont think it matters, i let them grow a little before putting them on.Do you grow your nails out a little or cut them before you get Gel Nails put on?
If you are going to a nail salon they will cut them for you to the desired length. If you are doing them yourself cut them as short as you get them without getting into the quick of the nail bed. Have had my done before and had them done for my wedding as well. You will love them if done properly.
I like to keep mine a little bit shorter before I get them put on, because otherwise your real nails are visible under your fakes when you turn your hand over.

you shouldcut them short becasue wen ur nails grown u will be able to see ur real nails under the fake ones n tht wont look gd they usually do ths for u wen u get them done

How to get rid of gel nails?

I have my nails manicured, but they are gel, not polished. If I don't want to continue getting them with gel at any time and just want the gel off, is there a way to do that at home? Anyone with any knowledge about gel nails? I really love the gels over getting nail polish, this is just a curious question for if I want to stop with the gel nails. Thank you!! :)How to get rid of gel nails?
I simply cannot believe some of the answers you have gotten. Even a supposed manicurist of like 13 years said to soak them off. Wow, take a class before you do any more nails on people....

Here is your answer: UV Gel nails cannot be removed in acetone, nail polish remover, or any other solvent. Period. Acrylic nails? Yes, UV gels. No. They MUST be filed off.

And 'drilling' (incorrect terminology, hon. Its an e-file, OK?) will only cause damage when the tech is unskilled or untrained. In the hands of a highly skilled, and qualified tech, they are VERY safe, and will NOT cause any damage to the natural nails. How to get rid of gel nails?
When I used to work at a nail salon, this is what they did..

Soak it in acetone nail polish remover. Every 5 minutes, use a nail file or a buffer and **GENTLY** file away the bloated/sticky glue, wipe with paper towel, and continue soaking. Continue until you get all the gel off. The more acetone the nail polish has, the faster the gel will come off..
soak in acetone and marbles. the marbles help to remove the gel layer because they are stronger than acrylic. Marbles hit against the gel to come off. Becareful though you might ruin your real nails.

I suggest just going to the salon. They drill the gel layer off. It only cost about $10.
Put some nail polish remover and some warm water in a bowl, and leave your hand in until they come off.

Its best to go to the salon though, then you wont harm your nails.
If they're really gel nails (Like LCN) they wont come off in acetone. You have to file them off. I would just go back to the salon and have your nail-tech do it.
Soak them and fingernail polish remover and then buff the gel nails off.
You have to go to the salon because if you don't do it properly it could start an infection or ruin your nails.

    Hope I Helped!
    acetone
The best way to get them off is to go to your local beauty supply store if you live in the US find a Sally's Beauty Supply if you have one and pick up the PURE ACETONE remover it is used for soaking off gels, wraps, and acrylics. Be careful with it thought because not only is it highly flammable but it will eat through furniture like wooden tables and it can stain some clothing, and it does dissolve away styrofoam and plastic. To soak them off properly use a GLASS bowl, and get a towel or two (or you can double fold the single towel) and soak your hands in it till it desolves..the beauty supply store also sells cuticle sticks (orangewood sticks) and as you see the enhancement breaks down just scrape the gel in a downward motion they should come off with no problem...just don't force the nail off you run the risk of damaging your natural nail. If you are doing them at home. If you have any more questions about anything related to hands or feet I can gladly answer any questions you may have! :)

I'm not anyone's ';hon';. Drilling them/e-filing them (term used by someone who posted that) a hand touch doesn't matter when you can have infections, trauma (like bumping them for instance) or serious hangnails. My training comes from personal experiences not a google website of a company who is trying to get you to buy more of their high priced products. Nail damage can occur it is a proven fact look at the grooves in them, it tends to deplete the layers of the natural nail. And I have been soaking them off that way for years with NO COMPLICATIONS so vote me down I don't care. I know my job and I definitely don't come to some of these people jobs instructing them. I mean seriously now get over it. Sorry sweetheart :)

I would set the rhinestone onto the nail before applying your final coat of gel. Kinda like you do with top coat polish. I wouldn't personally embed it in the gel because the only way you'll be able to get that rhinestone off is to file it off.

  • Do real gel nails turn yellow if you tan?

i know acrylic does. just curious if gel ones do to.Do real gel nails turn yellow if you tan?
Some acrylic nails will yellow. It depends on the quality of the acrylic products which were used on your nails. Many of the cheaper, low grade acrylics do turn yellow with exposure to UV light, such as from the sun or from tanning beds. But, a top quality acrylic product has a tendency to resist yellowing. Also, there are UV topcoats available which will help prevent yellowing of acrylic nails from exposure to UV light.

About gel nails yellowing: For the most part, real UV gel nails will not yellow from exposure to the sun, or from tanning booths either. Again, the quality of the product will determine whether they yellow, or not. But most UV nail gels are resistant to yellowing due to the molecular structure of gel nails. Some will yellow - yes, but most will not provided they are made from top quality gel products.

I hope this helps!Do real gel nails turn yellow if you tan?
Yeah...get some barrier cream, nail cuffs...sold at tanning salons. Or, you can get solar nails...they will not turn yellow. you can also get ';no yellow'; applied as a top coat to artificial nails that will keep them from turning.

can anyone tell me what the pinkish gum looking stuff is that you see in a pot in nail salons? its the one they put on the anil after the tip is in place. it doesn't look like any type of glue i've seen. what is it? what does it do? and if it is a glue of some sort, what the difference between that and regular uv gel you can apply straight from the bottle with a brush?Help with understanding nail gels please?
thiewrs is for french nails , its better coz it actually sticks to ur nails , the one that come outta de pot comes off easily

Do acrilick or gel nails hurt your nails at all?

Even your nails beds or skin around it!Do acrilick or gel nails hurt your nails at all?
Acrylic nails aren't as good for your nails, because they like, practically suffocate your nails, not letting room to breathe.

Thats why when you put them on, you feel that they're kind of tight, and they bug you.

Also, if they are long, then they will bug you, especially if you go around and do a lot.

Gel nails are much better for your nails, but more expensive. Also, its the process of getting the fake nails off that stink. Nail glue + suffocation = Blech.

Best advice: Get Gel nails if you have the money [but try not to get them too often, because putting too much junk on your nails isn't that great, you should let them relax %26amp; stuff. Just try and grow your nails yourself, and then paint them. You can do more unique designs instead of getting pre-made ones, and you can get rid of them easily and anytime! Also, it's cheaper %26amp; you'll be admired for your uniqueness!] (:Do acrilick or gel nails hurt your nails at all?
    Anything that's applied to your nails will eventually affect your nail. Even wearing nail polish every day will yellow your nails. It's best to just fancy up your nails for special ocassions, getting a good manicure for everyday wear. When you keep your nails clean and well-trimmed, it saves you time to do more important things. %26lt;*)))%26gt;%26lt;
Part of the process of putting on the acrylic or gel nails is to file down your natural nail, so of course it damages the nail. Then there are some harsh chemicals put on the nail bed. If you ask me, it's not worth the time, effort or money spent. Take some Biotin vitamins and hope for the best.
Well i've had my nails done.

    they do hurt you're nails.

if you well, rip them off when you dont want them.

    they dont hurt you.

but if you get them off professonally they wont be as damaged.
Yes, they damage your natural nail.

Ever notice that the people doing your nails never have acrylic on their nails?

Get manicures instead. Your nails will thank you.
ACRILICS HURT YOUR NAILS IF YOU KEEP GETTING THEM DONE!!! BUT WEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF IT HURTS HEKKA BAD!!

How can I do touch-ups and repairs on my gel nails at home?

unless you have the proper equipment, you can't.How can I do touch-ups and repairs on my gel nails at home?
I agree, you cannot do it without the proper equipment and supplies. It will cost you several hundreds of dollars at the very least for professional products. And a good UV lamp will cost you from $150-$200 all by itself. But, if you don't have a license to do nails, you cannot buy professional products. So, back to square one now. Let's just say that you were able to get the supplies, equipment, and all the products that you need - what will you do now that you have it all? You need to know about product chemistry, nail anatomy, the proper methods of application, cure times, which products to use - and when to use them, and so much more. My advice to you is to leave this sort of thing to a professional. It is much more difficult to do than it looks. I do both acrylic and gel nails, and gels were not easy to learn - that's for sure. I have since mastered them, though it took a LOT of patience, and a LOT of practice to get to the point where I am now.

Whats the difference between acrylic nails or gel nails?

and whats the difference betwen having tips and that powdery stuff?Whats the difference between acrylic nails or gel nails?
hello i am a nail tech and do both gel and acylic extensions!

acrylic nails, although they last a bit longer than gel nails, are much more damaging to the nail bed. They can go yellow, but usually only if the tech has filed at the side wall and let water get in and mould :S They involve using a powder and are much harsher on your nails!

if you are to get your nails doe i would definitely reccomend using gel as it is much more gentle on your nails and they come in a wider range of colours. Also a salon that does bio sculpture is reccomended as all their gel products are natural and are designed to cause as little damage to your nails as possible.

gell involves appying layers of gel and setting them in a UV lamp. They produce chip free colour/french manicures which can last for 3 weeks

    hope i helped!

:)Whats the difference between acrylic nails or gel nails?
OK, acrylic nails are more cheaper to get and they can turn yellow.

Gel nails are a little bit more, but they feel more natural, comfortable and it looks really natural .. what do you mean tips and that powdery stuff ? acrylic and gels, you have to get tips and the ';powdery stuff'; ..
i have my own nails painted in Gel paint...it lasts ages %26amp; looks great...acrylics are nails or just tips that are glued on professionally.

  • Gel nail ridge problem - damaged nail?

    Hi there:

I am taking a nail class in July as I want to learn how to do my own gel nails/toes, but in the meantime have been going to an Asian salon (I must admit, I go because it's cheap). The first time they did a great job, but this time I can still see a ridge on my nail and it looks like they drilled too much. Should I go back and tell them I am not happy? What exactly can they do to fix it? Thanks!Gel nail ridge problem - damaged nail?
What you have are called rings of fire. Its very common in salons like the one you go to because most of them are unskilled and do not do a good job on nails. Trust me when I say this. You only think they do a good job right now because you don't know any better. Once you have been properly trained, you will most likely be thinking to yourself, how could I ever have gone to one of those chop shops? Because only then will you be able to know there is a right way is to do nails - and a wrong way as well as what a set of nails that were done properly should look like. These salons use huge brushes and slop on the acrylic. The end result is a very flat, unnatural looking nail that is typically made from milky colored cheap acrylic. Its no wonder they always try to hide the shoddy work they do underneath a few coats of polish.

Now, what can you do to fix it? Absolutely nothing. You have no choice but to wait until it has grown out. There is no product that will fix it for you. The so called tech in one of these chop shops over filed your nails - as they typically do, and the result is what you see on your nails. If you want to avoid this from happebing in the future, then I suggest not going to a discount salon to have your nails done. Sure, it is cheap. But if you pay for cheap nails, you will get cheap nails.

I could go on all day about these salons and how they cheat the public by scamming them in so very many ways its not even funny. I honestly with the general public would stop giving their hard earned money over to these salons. They aren't worth it, believe me. But again, you won't be able to see that for yourself until you learn how to do nails the right way. Only then will you be able to see the light. Avoid discount salons at all costs...

What are ';Gel Nails';? Are they different or better than acrylic nails?

I'm a nail biter and want to have pretty nails for Easter! What are ';Gel Nails';? Are they different or better than acrylic nails?
I think that the gels are much better - I would call a reputable salon because the lady that just started doing mine - gels are all she does. There is a special name for them... Some are called ';resin'; or ';light concept nails'; (lcn). There are different names - they use lights to harden the gel. There aren't the harsh odors, chemicals, etc. like there is with acrylic. They can cost a bit more - but they are worth it if you want something healthier than acrylic. They also shouldn't allow for separation - which can cause nail fungus. They will use a manual file on your nails at the end to finish the form - which is great. The electric file is so bad on your fingernails.

If you search for resin, gel, or light concept nails you will get a lot of good information. Just make sure that you find a reputable salon - that's your best bet no matter what you decide. What are ';Gel Nails';? Are they different or better than acrylic nails?
They're softer than acrylics and therefore break more easily. They are a gelled substance (sorry, don't know exactly what) that is put on your nail and then you put your nail under a purple light and it hardens. I actually don't care for them as much as acrylics.

Imagine a REALLY thick layer of clear nail polish and you've got the idea.
they are waaay better. they are stronger, last longer, and are better for your nails
Gel Nails are nails that you can remove the next day usually cost 10 bucks-WalMart-Acrylic is a more permanent way to keep up you nails. The manicurist overlays your nail w/a tip and lays acrylic over that. They usually last 2 weeks. People get acrylic b/c they are a nice presentation and last a while.
They are more expensive and I find they are 'prettier' - have a glossier finish. They are about the same durability. Fiberglass looks awesome but they are even more expensive but look great :) I have a good enough nail stylist that I can go with clear nail polish for a French with just her 'work' with Gels. I love em :)
    WHAT ARE GEL NAILS?

The short answer: GEL NAILS are an extremely natural-looking enhancement: thin, clear, flexible, non-yellowing, nonporous, resist lifting. Gel nails can be used for natural nail overlays (actually one of the most difficult techniques--but it looks the easiest), tip overlays, and sculpted onto forms for short extensions, and to help encapsulate a damaged free-edge as it grows out. (For definitions of unfamiliar terms, check the ';Glossary of Nail Tech Terminology'; page.) Silk or fiberglass can be added to gels when needed for repairs or extra strength (don't get ahead of me, I' ll cover when, why and how later in these pages :).

A SILK WRAP DOES COST MORE BUT IT IS WORTH IT BECAUSE ALL THEY DO IS PUT A THIN LAYER OVER YOU NAILS AFTER THEY AVE RESHAPED AN CLEAN YOU NAILS. ALLOWING GROWTH AT A FASTER RATE AND WITH LESS WEIGHT THAT TIPS (GEL OR PLASTIC) WOULD PUT ON.

How do you use gel nail glue?

im tryna put on fake nail and i wanna use my glue but its not liquid its gel and it wont come out i wanna kno how to put it on and open itHow do you use gel nail glue?
Is it the one in the little tube? You have to cut the little plastic top off so the gel can come out. When I do my fake nails I use this brush on glue. It's like painting on nail polish but it's glue. I would recommend the brush on glue because it's easier to use than the gel one.

Also for applying the gel one just squeeze it onto your nail or the fake nail. Then use the tip to spread the glue around so it's even.

Fake nails (gel): how do you take them off? Is the salon the only place they can be taken off - for a price?

I got my nails done, for the first time in my life, for my wedding 3 weeks ago. I had them ';filled'; the other day, as instructed, on the 3rd week. But how can I take these things off, later? I have a gel French manicure. Do I have to go back to the salon? Will I have to pay for it?Fake nails (gel): how do you take them off? Is the salon the only place they can be taken off - for a price?
Just soak them in some strong nail polish remover.Fake nails (gel): how do you take them off? Is the salon the only place they can be taken off - for a price?
yeh you will have to pay for it if you go back they make you pay for everything in the nail salon lol what you can do is what they do soak your nails in nail polish remover for like 15min then you will see it coming off get a nail filer and file the gel off good luck
The fastest way for me to soak off my nails is to use some acetone in one bowl and then sit the bowl down in a bowl with hot water it seems to help the gel/acrylic to come off much quicker and a whole not easier. Hope that helps
If you have acrylic nails and dont want to go to the salon to take them off, you can go to Sally's and buy pure acetone fingernail polish remover. You should clip your acrylic nails down first as short as possible, and then soak your fingers in the acetone. The acetone dissolves the acrylic. It will take about 45 minutes to soak completely off depending on the thickness of the acrylic on your nail. As a rule, generally, the thicker the acrylic the longer the soak. Please dont bite them off, it will only hurt your teeth and destroy your own natural nails. I would also buy a nail strengthener to use once you've got the acrylic off, because more than likely your nails will feel paper thin.
I glued my own fake nails on for my wedding over a year ago...that was the once and only time i've ever used fake nails. Within 2 weeks, my nails started coming off on their own. I suppose, ask some friends if there are any 'old wives tales' on how to remove fake nails on your own. Wish I could have been more help :)

Where can I find a nail tech in Yuma, Arizona who uses Light Concept gel products.?

I'm a snowbird - living in Yuma for the winter and would like to find a nail salon with a tech using Light Concept gel products. I tried to find one last year without any luck, but was hoping to find someone who recently moved here who knows the process and uses the product.Where can I find a nail tech in Yuma, Arizona who uses Light Concept gel products.?
The most accurate and dependable way of locating an authentic LCN nail tech in your area would be to call LCN at their company's U.S.A. Headquarters which is located in Connecticut. They are very helpful, and I'm sure you would be able to get help from them. Their number is 800-86-NAILS. Their web site is at : http://www.lcnusa.com

easiest way is to call around to the local nail salons...

Do any of you girls have Acrylic Gel Nails?

Any Nail Techs out there? I just had a full set put on a couple of days ago! I just wanted to know if you know, if it would mess up the nails in any way, if you put Clear Topcoat on top of the Gel Nails, to freshen up the shine, if the shine begins to get a little dull or if it's ok to do that! Thanks!Do any of you girls have Acrylic Gel Nails?
I'm not sure what you mean by 'acrylic gel' nails? They are either acrylic, or UV gel. Anyway, you won't mess up your nails by using clear topcoat but if they are real UV gel nails, they should stay shiny for about two weeks.

How to tell the difference? If the technician used any liquid and powder on your nails, they are acrylic nails - not gel. UV gel nails are made from - as the name implies, gel that is similar to the consistency of a hair gel. Gels are never a powder though many salons will try to tell you its ';powder gel.'; Sorry, but there is no such thing as powder gel!

Assuming that you have real UV gel nails, do NOT buff them as suggested by another answer. This will most definitely ruin the shine and there is nothing you can do at home to restore that shine unless you have a UV lamp and some UV top gloss or sealer. Never buff UV gel nails.Do any of you girls have Acrylic Gel Nails?
    Hi there

Yes hun, using a clear topcoat over your gel nails will be fine and won't mess them up. You might want to get yourself a three way buffer as well though as if they do become a little dull, instead of getting the topcoat out, buff them up.
no its not good my parents r pros and its not good if they start to get dull that means its going to start to get yellow and ugly so u should just go to a cheap nail salon and do them over
    That's fine. Go for it.

  • What are the differences between the 3 types of fake nails: acrylic, gel, and silk?

I've only used acrylic. They are very thick, and I can't go without nail polish. Do silk or gel appear more natural? What are the differences between the 3 types of fake nails: acrylic, gel, and silk?
Acrylic, you know what that is, the powder and liquid. The gel is a powder they apply to your own nail and wet it with gel to make your nail stronger. Silk is actually silk, cut to the length and width of your nail and applied with a liquid and buffed.. There are also solar nails, like the acrylic, but they use two different powders (pink and white) and they dont polish them, just buff with a cream....they can make all of them thin if that is what you want. I would try them to see which you favor more. Everyone's tastes are different.

Those rings mean they are drilling at your cuticle too deep at each fill in. You definitely should find someone else. They just look at you as another fill in and not trying to keep you. They would not be doing this if they were more professional and careful. What are the differences between the 3 types of fake nails: acrylic, gel, and silk?
Maybe it's not the fact they are acrylic.... but the technique of your nail tech! The people I currently go to now do very nice natural looking acrylic nails for me. find a different tech and see if they don't do better work.
gel is more natural definatly, i dont know the sciece behind, but thas silk is not whats up!

Why should i pay more for gel nails versus acrylic?

I have always opted for gel nails which are more costly over the acrylic as I was told they are more realistic looking. However in comparing my daughters acrylic nails and my gel nails, i don't really see any difference and even prefer the pink tint that she has on her acrylic nails. Are gel nails better in any way and therefore worth the extra cost? Why should i pay more for gel nails versus acrylic?
Depends if you're rough with them or not. My acrylic ones stayed just as nice as my gel ones, but my friend's looked terrible in no time. Why should i pay more for gel nails versus acrylic?
Simply stated, gel nails cost more than acrylics because the products used in the application of gel nails costs more than acrylic products. But, just make sure you are getting 'real' gel. You probably are, in case you want to be absolutely certain, take a look at this pic:

    http://www.cnd.com/Home/homelink-consume鈥?/a>

These gels are from a top of the line gel and acrylic nail product company. I provided this link because, unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there getting what they think are gel nails only because thts what the tech told them they were, when in fact they are getting acrylic nails with a UV gel topcoat and thats all. Put it this way: If the tech uses ANY liquid and powder - as in acrylic applications, then you are not getting gel nails - you are getting acrylic nails, but are probably being charged the higher gel nail price. Remember, gell is NEVER a powder. It is a gel, just like in the pic. This may not apply to you, but I just wanted to bring it up - just in case. Gels are available in a wide variety of colors including glitters, shimmers, and bold %26amp; bright colors. The possibilities are really endless when it comes to gel nails. But, it takes a highly skilled tech to do gel nails, and make them both look good, and wear well. The product line the tech uses makes a huge difference in the end. There are many really cheap gels available that techs use which will yellow over time, they tend to lift more, and break easily. So, It really depends on the skill level of the tech, and what product line they are using. It takes a long time, and a lot of experience doing gel nails before a tech can master them. They are easy to do, but very difficult to master. And many techs never will master them. You just have to find a tech who is really skilled in applying them

If you don't have a choice of colors available to you, then may I suggest finding a diferent tech? I say this because you said that you preferred your daughter's pink acrylic over yours. That leads me to thinking that you had only clear, or perhaps only clear and a white used on them. I could be wrong though.

When getting a set of gel nails, expect to pay a minimum of $45. I've seen them as high as $85, but that was for LCN gel nail products. This gel line is arguably the very best nail gels available. They are imported from Germany, and they cost about three times as much as their competitors products do. But they are terrific gel products. If you can find a tech who uses genuine LCN products, and is highly skilled in applying them, I would highly recommend getting a full set of them applied, that is as long as it is within your budget. I know, it is a bit pricey, but they really are worth it! Other good gel manufacturers are CND, Young Nails, Akzentz, Light Elegance, and Biosculpture is pretty good too. Those are the major gel lines. Any others I would be skeptical of. Always be sure that the manufacturs label is on the container of gel that the tech is using. Good gels are ALWAYS clearly labeled by the manufacturer, and look very similar to the gels in the pic. Unlabeled containers are a cause for concern that the tech is using substandard gel, and I wouldn't ever recommend that kind of product to anyone.

Lastly, are they better? IMO, yes, they are. They look more realistic, they are durable, they are flexible which means LESS breakage, they are non-toxic, good gels are non-yellowing, and you can go longer between fills because gels have less of a tendency to lift.

If you are not getting one or more of the things I described, or are experiencing yellowing, lifting, breakage, and so on, then I would suggest changing salons, and getting a better tech.

FOr a listing of company certified techs who use CND products, have a look at this salon locator. ALL of the techs/salons on this page have been company trained, and certified prior to their being listed on this page. You will most definitely be able to find a highly experienced, and skilled tech using this locator:

    http://www.cnd.com/Locate/Find-A-Salon.a鈥?/a>

Sorry so long, but there is a lot to explain!!!

    I hope this helps!
I think they just look more realistic. I think they are better on your natural nail too.
gels nails are more flexible which in turn can cause more breakages.. Gel often peels off the natural taking a few layer of nail with it.. Acrylic will tend to lift around the edges and not peel like the gel do.Acrylic is more durable

What should I expect for my gel nails?

Apparently I have 'gel nails'. At least that is what I asked for... and paid the extra money for! However to my disappointment they were not set under a UV Lamp and they are not particularly shiny. When I got my refills they did not do any maintenance of the white line of the tips.

Should they have fixed the white tips of powdered gel nails? I wonder why she didn't.

Can I switch to the proper gel nails without ripping all of my nails?

If the process starts to sting like hell is there anything that they can do to stop it hurting or has the damage already been done?

Thanks in advanceWhat should I expect for my gel nails?
Well being a nail tecnication I can most confidently tell you that you did not get gel nails at all. Any type of gel ranging from the most expensive Brisa gel to light concept nails by creative concept nails, to the cheapest ';powdered gel'; all must me cured under a UV light to sort of ';activate'; the gel. It sounds to me like you got ';powdered gel'; but did not get the last gel activating coat over it which that is done under the UV light. Think about it they call it gel for a reason, because the product is gel, not a powder and a liquid. This is because you probably went to the corner store nail shop with the asian people, yes the do the nails but butchar them and use cheap products. Moving on to the white tip, I am a little distored because with real gel the white part is a type of gel that is cured under the UV light, part of the whole nail process. What you probably got is a white tip that requires no maintance when getting a fill. On the the part of the stinging part, that is not normal at all, getting your nails done should NEVER hurt, if they do the person did something terrible wrong. I am taking a guess that you went to the corner nail shop where the first thing they do is take their nail drill and drill your nail with it. 1. that is not even a real nail drill they use it is a engine bought at a hardware store with a nail attachemnt on it real nail drills are around $400 for a good one. 2. you NEVER EVER EVER drill on the natural nail that RUNINS your nail for good by thinning it out so that it will never return to the same thickness. Instead real nail techs. take a file and more or less scrape the tope simply to get the oil out of the nails and to open the pores. The others use the drill to save a lot of time. They probably did it extensively and that is why your nail is sore. Now the hard part, because I do not know for shure what product you got i am not to shure what to say about taking them off. In my personal and professional opinion I think you got some sort of powdered gel with no activatior. With that being said, DO NOT take them off, the people say that it is ok to take them off with no problem, but don't listen to them. Think about it, gel nails can not be penetrated by acetone(nail polish remover) or any other chemical, acrylics can but gels can not. So they will soak the nail which makes you think helps but does nothing then they will pull them off. BAD IDEA!!!!!! never ever ever pulll off fake nails! Think about it they just drilled off half the thickness of your nail away, then they are going to pull of something attached to them. Hello?!? Not a smart idea.

Sorry that it is so long but I hope me explaining everything makes you think and answers all your questions

Good Luck! What should I expect for my gel nails?
You can soak your fingertips in Nail Polish Remover to loosen them up before gently pulling the off. (A tweezer helps).

I would go to another nail salon and ask for help. Really. They'll fix them up and it's worth the pay.

If it is stinging you, I suggest not getting gel nails at all. You could have an allergic reaction to them.

first of all you really cant say well she did this wrong or that because we don't have all the facts meaning, what product did she use? was primer in the instructions for usage, were they light gels? or no light gels?was the whole application process wrong? All these are factors.

Are gel nails harmful to pregnant women?

I usually get gel nails for the winter, but this year I am pregnant. I was wondering if the glues and chemicals will be harmful to my unborn baby. Are gel nails harmful to pregnant women?
No... the nails should be just fine If anything it might the smells in the nail salon. FUMES are said to be bad for the baby, but I've gotten my nails done quite a few times and my doctor said it was A-OK. Just to double check, always ask your doctor. Are gel nails harmful to pregnant women?
Usually the later in your pregnancy you are the more okay doing things like getting your nails done becomes. My friend was told during her first tri not to add nails-she did anyways and everything was fine. Her doctor's concern wasn't for the nails or the smells-but the risk of infection that can sometimes occur when getting your nails done at a public place. If you have a history with the salon and it is a clean place, I would say go for it. I know the more pregnant I become the more I need something to help me feel pretty and relaxed-getting my nails done helps.

You can take UV gel nails off yourself. Use pure acetone and soak them for 30 minutes or so. Nail polish remover is a bit too diluted and will take longer for it to work. Will soaking in acetone help remove uv gel nails?
soak in regular acetone, not nail polish remover. It will take about 30 minutes for it completely come off. You will need something to help scrap the nail off when it is soggy, so use a chop stick.

Whats the diffrence between Acrylic nails and Gel nails?

I ask this question because I heard that if you get acyrlic on your nails

it can help them grow.Whats the diffrence between Acrylic nails and Gel nails?
The difference is that gel nails are more natural and a lot easier on your natural nail. Acrylics are much more harsh on your nail and make your natural nail much weaker than they were before you put the acrylics on.

Can I go from acrylic to gel nails?

I asked for a set of gel nails at a salon and I got acrylic instead. Can I get gel fills to eventually grow out the acrylic over time or do I need to start over with a new set of gels. Can I go from acrylic to gel nails?
You need to have the acrylic nails removed properly, and then have a set of real UV gel nails applied. Real UV gel nails NEVER use liquid and powder in their application. Only UV nail gels are used. A gel is a 'gel,' not a powder...Can I go from acrylic to gel nails?
no you will need to let the acylic grow out and then get gels. they are 2 completely different materials and will counteract each other and peel or break off. just wait and let them grow out themselves , altough acrylic i have found are a lot stronger ands last better than gel.
You need to have the acrylic removed before using gel.

I hope it is temporary because i am dreading going to work tonight. i work with my hands!!How long do gel nails hurt for?
I am going to take a wild guess and say that you went to what is commonly known as a 'discount' salon. This is typically a salon that charges in the range of $25 or less for a full set of acrylics. Also, there is typically a HUGE language barrier as well. That kind of salon, yes. They are notorious for doing things like over filing your nails so that little natural nail is left. They are typically unsanitary and the techs are usually unskilled and not very experienced at doing nails. My advice is to avoid this type of salon at all costs. Nail services of any type should never cause you any pain or discomfort. Ever.

Anyway to answer your question - the pain should go away in a few days - maybe less. The most common cause of this is over filing of the natural nails. It happens all the time in the discount salons. Also, I'd like to point out something that many people are not aware of that the discount salons do so very often that its ridiculous. You go in and ask for gel nails, and they will apply acrylic nails on you and follow it - maybe, with a UV top coat or sealer. These are not gel nails. They are acrylic. Its really simple to tell the difference. If the tech used ANY liquid and powder on your nails - you have acrylic nails, not gel. Gel nails are made for - you guessed it, gel. Gel is never a powder.Gel is exactly as the name implies - a gel. It has a hair gel like consistency to it and is applied in several thin layers. Each of these layers must be cured under a UV lamp for 2-3 minutes - depending on the gel line used. You'd be amazed at how many people think they have gel nails when all they have is acrylic nails. But most simply don't know the difference so it really isn't their fault. I mean, they asked for gel nails, the tech says they are gel nails so why wouldn't they be? But still, it happens all the time in discount salons. And of course, you'll be charged the higher gel nail price for acrylic nails with a gel topcoat or sealer. So many people mistakenly think that gel nails can be soaked off in acetone. This is false. They must be filed off. Acetone won't do a thing to them. If it does, its because they are acrylic nails - not UV gel nails. They have so many scams going on. Another is these so called solar nails. They will tell you these solar nails are much better than acrylic. The truth of it is that solar nails ARE acrylic nails, Again, they will charge you a higher price for this. The list goes on and on.

Avoid discount salons - always...How long do gel nails hurt for?
You might be feeling what I felt when I had mine done. My own nails are very thin and they file them rough for the new ones to stick. The chemicals hurt me because they filed my nails so thin even though I told them not to. That same day the burning feeling went away.

I hope yours is gone now. I never again had mind done after two times of that feeling, and they hurt even more trying to take them off.

Good luck. Beautiful I know, but to much pain for me.

Can I swim in a chlorinated pool if I have gel nails?

I just had my first set of gel nails done 2 weeks ago. I am a keen swimmer but am worried if I go swimming that they will fall off.Can I swim in a chlorinated pool if I have gel nails?
You can go swimming with them, but keep in mind that the longer your hands are in water, the more water can start to penetrate around the cuticle edge of the nail, and can cause the gel nails to start to lift away from the natural nail as the natural nail swells upon lengthy water exposure, and then shrinks again as they dry. This expansion and contraction causes the adhesive to break some of it's bonds. If it's just every now and then, social swimming won't be too bad, but if you do it regularly, I think the gel nails would be a waste of money to try to maintain. Can I swim in a chlorinated pool if I have gel nails?

ok my nails have grown down like half way and they are really grose, so how do i get them off?How do i get my gel nails off?
No, no, no... You cannot soak off UV gel nails. They need to be filed off. Carefully filed off or you could cause lots of damage to your natural nails. If your nails come off in acetone then you don't have UV gel nails. You have acrylic nails.in that case. Why don't you have them filled? Gel nails are not for people who are just going to have them applies but do nothing to maintain them. I don''t get it but wharever. They are your nails so you can do whatever you want with them. OR, were they a powder and a liquid mixed together. If so, then you have acrylic nails - not gel. I' m only asking because those just don't look like gel nails to me. And I honestly do not wish for this to sound nasty or insulting, in any way, but whoever did those nails did a very poor job on them. There is absolutely no reason for a tech to 'grind' up your nails - ever. So very many people have this belief that this'grinding' process is needed to make the acrylic, or gel adhere better to your natural nails. That is not true. They do it - normally, because they are unskilled and really shouldn't be doing nails in the first place. One person answered that 'drills' are not safe, and WILL mess up your nails really badly. I disagree. It's not the drill that hurts people. People hurt people. I mean, gibe an unskilled, unqualified, and untrained chop shop worker (they don't qualify as techs in my book...) a 'drill' which itself is very poor quality, and NOT made for use on nails - as Dremels are (thats what these chop shops generally use), then of course you will end up with ruined nails. A good tech wil have training in the proper use of not a drill, but rather an 'e-file,' which is a specially designed tool for use on nails.ANd a good tech will never cause damage to your nails, or cause you any pain. The e-files we use are usually the best quality available. For the sake of comparison...A typical chop shop will use a dremel drill. Cost? About $40. Intended usage: Woodwork, and other hobbies. A top notch tech will use a high quality e-file. Cost? Between $350-$500 each. Big differencem huh?

Anyway....There really isn't much you can do at this point. The damage was done already. To avoid this in the future, go to a top notch salon. Avoid the foreign language speaking chop shops. And do not go back to the place you got those nails done on you. Seriously? THey don't look very good at all in terms of nail structure, application, and the end result looks rather shabby - just like a novice did them.

Now, just a few words for the other answerers - if you don't mind. FIrst...Nails that are lifting do NOT need to be removed. I don't know who told you that, but it simply is not true. WHat IS true is that the lifting should be repaired ASAP. But remove the nails because of it? Never. It's just not how things are done in the world of nails.

One more note: Nails are made up from mostly dead keratin cells. There is a qite common belief out there that nails - for some reason, need to 'breathe.' Not true. Nails do not breathe. They do not have lungs, or gills. Nor do they exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide. Nails do not breathe. Simple as that.

Sorry I didn't give you a better, more informative answer, but Ihad a very, very long, hard day today and am so tired that its unreal. I do hope I helped a bit at least. Please don't be offended because I commented on the poor quality of those nails. I was only being honest with you. I've been doing nails for a very long time now. And I know good work when I see it. That is not what I would call good work, sorry. Best wishes.... How long should I keep gel nails on?
I have gel nails and i get them filled in every 2 to 3 weeks. It's up to you how long you leave them on, i have been getting my nails done for about 10 years. I do get a new set every 6 months. Your real nails will be very soft and flimsy and senstive when you take the nails off and its very time consuming to do so.
any time you put something unnatural on your nail, your depraving it of oxygen which will weaken your original nail. plus, if you went to one of those toture shops where they use the grinder drill on your nail bed, it's even worse. those drills create deep indendations in your nail that take a really long time to heal. my mother in law used to get hers done and never listened to me when i told her about what her nails would be come and wouldn't you know it - they were screwed for about 6 months.
I'm torn- I kinda agree with the first 2 answers. One thing you need to watch for- if your gel nails start to lift, you NEED to take them off. If you don't, it is a perfect breeding ground for fungus.

How can you tell the difference between acrylic nails and gel ones?

I think i might have the gel ones but im not entirely sure what the difference is. Do they both start in the powder form? How would I know which ones i have on me. Thanks! How can you tell the difference between acrylic nails and gel ones?
I think they both look terrible. Here's something consider: Hospitals will not allow workers or doctors to wear them because they harbor bacteria. Yeeewwww! How can you tell the difference between acrylic nails and gel ones?
acrylic start in the powder form and have a sort of dim look to them before they are painted...gel on the other hand starts off as gel and before they are painted have a nice shine to them.......i have acrylic at the mo but tomorrow I'm doing them gel..........i like that better....xxx
You probably have acrylic. Gel costs a little more and you would have to ask for it!
Gel usually starts as a gel. The acrylic is a powder they mix. Gel is a lot softer, and can usually soak off, and break easily, but they look a little nicer than acrylic (at least in my opinion) mostly because they are not as thick. Especially if you are looking for something which looks more realistic/natural.
they are done exactly the same but gel ones dont look as thick as the acrylic ones. you have to be more careful because they arent as strong as acrylic... so they may need replacing quicker x
No acrylic start with the powder and the gels start as gel and they put then under a UV lamp
gel nails are not as hard their more fexible. They are eaiser to soak off.
I have gel nails and they do not start off as a powder. Gel looks exactly like a clear hair gel in a pot. The use a tiny brush to apply it and not the big acrylic brush.

Gel nails are more flexible and are the most natural looking fake nails you can get. After they apply the gel, you have to put your hands under a UV lamp in order to cure or harden them.

You would definitely know if you had UV gel nails because it makes your nail beds burn as the UV light is hardening them. They are hella more expensive than acrylic nails. An acrylic set may run you as much as 60 bucks in an expensive place and gel nails are over 100 dollars.
