Do gel nails damage your nails, and how much do they normally cost?

I have really weak nails in the first place and I want to make them healthier somehow, I heard that's what gel nails do. Also, for work I'm not allowed to paint my nails but mine are so ugly naked, and gel nails are just so pretty =) Any tips about gel nails would be wonderful. How do they do it, and do you need to have long nails in the first place?

First of all you should know that there are different types of gels that are used for gel/acrylic nails.. Its going to depend on the person who does them. Acrylic nails are harder on your natural nails. But for both gel and acrylic, you will have your natural nails filed down to create a rough surface for the gel to bond to.


Acrylic nails it doesn't matter how long your nails are because they'll put tips on anyway, gel nails they create the tip with the gel. You get a bit better of a result if you have longer nails because it will support the heavy gel tip better.

yes....they do damage your nails especially when you take them off. they will definitely not make them healthier. but they are pretty (i have them right now actually) and they cost about 20-30 dollars. what they usually do is file ur nails down and give them a rough surface on top. Then the glue on a tip and use acrylic powder and a fluid mixed together to make a hard acrylic shell over your whole nail. and no you dont need to have long nails. the shorter the better acutally.
