Gel nails are supposed to be applied directly to the nail right?

Gel nails are supposed to be applied to the nail directly right? Why do some salons put a fake nail on first, then the gel?Gel nails are supposed to be applied directly to the nail right?
Essentially, there are two methods of applying either acrylic, or gel nails. One is to use tips. The other is to sculpt the nails by use of nail forms which are removed once the product has been cured in the case of gels (or hardened - with acrylics). This of course means that the gel (or acrylic) is applied to your natural nails.

Oh, of course there is a natural nail overlay as well. This is when no extension is applied with either tips, or forms. The product is applied directly to the natural nail in this case.

At times, the use of nail tips is inevitable, and they must be used for best results. But that is rarely the case. In my own opinion - and this is only my opinion, the reason most techs use tips is because its much easier and requires little or no skill to do nails using tips. To sculpt a great looking set of nails takes a lot of skill, experience, and practice. Sculpting - when done right, always results in much better looking nails. Tips are typically used by inexperienced - or lazy, nail techs unless the need for them arises. Like I said, it happens. But it is rare that one absolutely needs to use tips.Gel nails are supposed to be applied directly to the nail right?
